Helen of Troy

Helen of Troy

$990.00

follow your heart, passion

Handmade from sterling silver and 18k gold, the Helen of Troy necklace shows the queen crowned in an elaborate gold tiara. Her face is carved from a recycled piano key, and her features delicately scrimshawed by hand.  The necklace is reversible - showing the stone on the back - and beaded with natural pearls. Helen followed her heart and eloped with her lover Paris in an age where women had few rights, and she reminds us to follow our bliss and passion no matter what the societal pressures around us.  She measures 1.8" x 1.2".

Born a princess of Sparta, Helen’s suitors numbered in the thousands but her father married her to the powerful, and much older, King Menelaus. Helen had no say in the matter, and when Paris - blessed by the goddess Athena - arrived in Sparta, Helen realized her true destiny and eloped with him to Troy. Though sometimes called unfaithful, Helen was truly the opposite: denied the choice of a husband, she rebelled against a king and a country for the right to choose her soulmate. Helen remained loyal and stayed by Paris’ side until the end. Her story inspires us to follow our heart, no matter what difficulties we encounter.
