Product Description

The Yemaya Necklace

abundance, prosperity, creation

Handmade from sterling silver and 18k gold, the Yemaya necklace shows the mermaid gazing out to sea with a crown of starfish.  Her body is carved from a recycled piano key, and her features delicately scrimshawed by hand.  The necklace is reversible - showing the stone on the back - and beaded with natural pearls.  Yemaya, African goddess of the ocean, is the source of all life and creation, and she represents the abundance and wealth of the sea.  She measures 1.9" x 1.25".

Each goddess necklace is signed on the bottom by the artist, with an easy-to-use sterling silver and gemstone box clasp.  The standard beading length is 19" but can be strung to any length.

Warranty Information

Yemaya, Goddess of the living Ocean, is the source of all waters. As all life began in the sea, so all life began with Yemaya, too. She is motherly, protective, and cares deeply for her children, comforting them and cleansing them of sorrow. She protects the ships at sea, as well as curing infertility. Yemaya rules over the surface of the ocean, where life is concentrated, and forms a balance with the god Olokin, who rules the depths of the ocean and the unconscious.

Yemaya is seen here as a mermaid, gazing out to sea to protect the ships coming into harbor. She wears a crown of starfish, and the two nautilus shells above her symbolize the life and fertility she bestows upon the ocean.
