The Helen of Troy Necklace

follow your heart, passion

Handmade from sterling silver and 18k gold, the Helen of Troy necklace shows the queen crowned in an elaborate gold tiara. Her face is carved from a recycled piano key, and her features delicately scrimshawed by hand.  The necklace is reversible - showing the stone on the back - and beaded with natural pearls. Helen followed her heart and eloped with her lover Paris in an age where woman had few rights, and she reminds us to follow our bliss and passion no matter what the societal pressures around us.  She measures 1.8" x 1.2".

Offically licensed by the Mucha Foundation, Helen's design is inspired by the father of Art Nouveau, Alphonse Mucha.  As an official Mucha jeweler, 10 percent of all proceeds will go towards the Mucha Museum to preserve the rich legacy of Mucha's stunning art nouveau paintings. Each goddess necklace is signed on the bottom by the artist, with an easy-to-use sterling silver and gemstone box clasp.  The standard beading length is 19" but can be strung to any length.

Warranty Information

Helen of Troy is one of the most memorable women from myth and perhaps the most inspired character in all literature, ancient or modern. A ten-year war raged over the beauty and simple power of this woman: the daughter of Zeus, the father of all gods, and Leda, queen of Sparta. In Helen - the face that launched a thousand ships - the blood of royalty and immortality is mingled.

Born a princess of Sparta and soon widely famed for her stunning beauty, Helen’s suitors numbered in the thousands. Her father soon married her to Menelaus, an older king with expansive grounds and power. Helen had little say in the matter, and when young Paris - blessed by the goddess Athena - arrived in the kingdom of Sparta, Helen realized her true destiny and eloped with Paris to Troy. Though sometimes maligned for being unfaithful, Helen was truly the opposite: denied her the choice of a husband, she rebelled against a king and a country to win the right to choose her soulmate. Even after the consequences of her elopement became clear, Helen remained loyal to her heart and stayed at Paris’ side until the end. Her story inspires us to follow our heart, no matter what difficulties we encounter.
