1983. Artist Kelly Reed Morgen is born in Seattle, Washington to Albert and Joyce Morgen. 1989. The Morgen family moves to California, where Kelly attends St. Mark's School in Terra Linda. 1999. Kelly attends Marin Academy High School in San Rafael as a sophmore transfer student. Summer, 1999. Kelly begins pursuing her interest in art in more than private sketchbooks, and teaches Draw/Paint I at Marin Academy Summer School for children aged 10 to 14. 2000. Kelly wins the Congressional District Art Award for the Bay Area; her painting "American Girl" hangs in the Capital Building of Washington, D.C. for a year. 2001. Kelly graduates Cum Laude from Marin Academy and moves to Massachusetts to attend Williams College. Summer, 2003. Kelly works as both a private writing tutor and a psychology research assistant, studyig the relationship between family environment and children's aggression towards peers. 2004. Kelly studies abroad in Florence, Italy to expand her interests in art. She takes courses in Batik, Photography, Italian, Art History, and Metalsmithing. She decides within two weeks to become a jeweler. Summer, 2004. Kelly apprentices to Art Studio Fuji after her study-abroad program concludes. She teaches high school students beginning metalsmithing in exchange for courses in enameling, engraving, lost-wax casting, and advanced fabrication. She completes over 500 hours of training. Spring, 2005. As Williams lacks a jewelry program and Kelly lacks the equipment, she finishes her Studio Art major with a concentration in egg tempera painting. Her subject matter focuses on the modern retelling of classic fairy tales, combining her own poetry with invented and fantastical images. 2005. Kelly graduates Magna Cum Laude from Williams College with a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts, having completed a double major in Psychology and Studio Art. She is inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa society for academic achievement. Summer, 2005. Kelly apprentices to Cherokee shaman and silversmith Heyoka Merrifield in southern Montana, where she learns his unique blend of Art Nouveau and Native American-inspired jewelry. Winter, 2005. Kelly returns to Marin County, California to launch Kelly Morgen Jewelry, a small self-run company dedicated to creating the most beautiful jewelry possible. March, 2006. Kelly's senior psychology article ("New Method for Harm: Relational Aggression on Instant Messenger") is presented at the Society for Research in Adolescence in San Francisco. Present. Currently based in San Rafael, California, Kelly creates jewelry constantly in her studio. Her work is currently shown throughout the country, including such locations as Carmel-by-the-Sea, Maui, and Santa Fe.
