Daphne, the daughter of the River God in Grecian myth, was bathing one day by the side of her stream when she was spied by Apollo, the Sun God, who fell instantly in love with her. The enamored youth pursued the shy nymph, and although she fled as swiftly as her legs could take her, she realized that Apollo would soon catch her. She prayed to her father for help and just as Apollo grasped her slim waist, he found himself caressing only rough bark. Daphne had been transformed into a laurel tree.

Daphne, crowned in her beauty, is shown on the front side of the necklace. On the back, Apollo, represented by the agate's bright color, watches over the slim laurel tree, hoping that some day his beloved nymph will return to him. Daphne reminds us of our connection to all living things, and the Nature that grows within us.
