The legendary queen of ancient Britain, Gweneviere remains one of the most complex women in history. Promised to King Arthur, to herald in the golden age of Camelot and chivalry, she fell deeply in love with the heroic knight Lancelot. Ever after, her heart was torn between her king and her sworn champion. Translated from the Welsh, Gwenhwyfar means “The White Fairy,” suggesting a perhaps mystical or inherent power possessed by the Queen. Often depicted as the Queen of May, Gweneviere embodies the land of Britain, and her union with King Arthur gives them the right to rule in the perfect match of masculine and feminine. She appears inside the shrine with the outline of Camelot behind her and the Holy Grail in her hand, symbolizing both Arthur's search for that sacred feminine relic and her own search for the divine within love. On the front of the shrine is Excalibur, covered with roses, showing the balance between the masculine strength in the sword and the feminine compassion within the flowers. On the back of the side resides the legendary golden city of Camelot, ruling atop a cypress-covered hill with the full opal moon and stars above. Dimensions: 3" tall by 2" wide |
